Dan Larkin

Dan Larkin is a global corporate and real estate partner in Salans’ London office and leads the Global Hospitality Group.

Dan specializes in asset-backed transactions and financing, and has experience advising on structured financing, public-private partnerships, capital sourcing, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, privatization, development projects, securitization and restructuring

He has advised clients in this area as a lawyer and financial adviser. Dan has particular experience with transactions in the hospitality and leisure, real estate, transport, energy, construction, consumer products and retail, and media and entertainment industries.

Prior to joining Salans, Dan was a partner at Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP. His career also includes positions as a managing director with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Financial Advisory Group in London and senior executive roles with Hyatt International Corporation and Ameritech, during which he provided legal counsel and business advice on matters throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as Asia-Pacific and the Americas.

Dan is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events including various financial and educational forums and before professional bodies. Among professional associations, he has served as an officer of the International Bar Association and as an officer of the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law.

Elizabeth McLoughlin
Independent Member

Elizabeth McLoughlin has over 25 years experience in global real estate development, investment and management.

Her experience includes development and project management expertise from land acquisition through permitting, development and operations;  strategic planning from market and feasibility assessment through business plan and implementation; joint venture structuring, partnership negotiation and corporate acquisitions; capital raising and financial structuring of both debt and equity.

She is currently principal and partner in Dalmi Inc., primarily focusing on the development of large scale resorts on the Adriatic Coast.  From 2001 to 2005 She was formerly the Managing Director of AIG Global Real Estate Investment (Europe) Ltd., a Pan-European opportunity fund with an approximately $1 billion investment program.  She was responsible for the Fund’s investment and development activities encompassing Western, Central and Eastern Europe, and Russia.

From 1998-2000 she was Vice President of TrizecHahn Europe, a London based Pan-European opportunity fund, and subsidiary of TrizecHahn Corporation, a $6 billion publicly traded real estate company. She was responsible for acquisition, development and financing of real estate projects throughout (primarily Central and Eastern) Europe, with a primary focus on large scale retail and entertainment properties.

From 1992 to 1997 Ms. McLoughlin was Vice President of Copley Real Estate Advisors, a $14 billion Boston based investment and advisory firms in the US. She was responsible for new business initiatives for Copley, including acquisitions and development, as well as the origination of new fund products and markets for investment. Copley’s focus was primarily industrial and office development, with a significant presence on the East and West coasts.

Ms. McLoughlin has written a number of articles in real estate publications, has co-authored over twenty real estate cases at Harvard Business School, and has been a speaker at multiple industry conferences in the US and Europe. Elizabeth received her B.A. from Harvard University in 1974 and her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1986.

Jerry Pierman

Jerry Pierman has 35 years of experience in the golf business.  Pierman, a charter member of the Golf Course Builders of America, served two years as its President and six years on its Board of Directors.  He also served six years on the Advisory Board for the World Golf Hall of Fame at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, and four years on the Executive Committee of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Columbus, Ohio. Pierman owned and operated Pierman Golf Company with offices in North Palm Beach, Florida and Scottsdale, Arizona, which was the builder of 23 golf courses throughout the United States for designers Jack Nicklaus, Jim Fazio, Art Hills and others.  He was retained to design and build two golf courses in Japan, assisted Fazio with design coordination in Italy, and has managed the development of golf courses in Puerto Rico and in Colombia, South America.

Pierman’s experience includes five years as Vice President of Jack Nicklaus’ Golden Bear, Inc.  He also served five years as Treasurer of Nicklaus’ club operations company, his golf course construction company Golforce, Inc., and Vice President of Nicklaus’ golf course design companies, both in the United States and in Japan.  Additionally, he was Manager of Tom Fazio’s Golf Design Company and Project Manager of Pete Dye’s golf course at Old Marsh Development in Jupiter, Florida.

He formed International Golf Group in partnership with Turner Construction Company in New York and that company eventually became Pierman Golf Company.  Together with Lanny Wadkins, he formed Wadkins Design Group and currently serves as its Executive Vice President.

Carlos Taboada
Independent Member

Carlos Taboada is a Nicaraguan lawyer and Notary Public, Partner at Consortium – Taboada & Asociados in Managua, Nicaragua. He has been Head of the Intellectual Property and Real Estate Department at the Firm. His practice areas include corporate, tax, real estate and contracts.

The foreign and local clients doing business in Nicaragua he has advised include companies in the following industries: real estate development, hotel, restaurant, banks, microfinance companies, agroindustrial, telecommunications and oil companies. He has acted advising clients in several multi-million dollar transactions, including M&A and Structured Finance operations. He recently participated as Coordinator of the Commercial Law Reform Project sponsored by the World Bank.

He serves on multiple Boards as a trusted advisor. Mr. Taboada is member of regional executive Committee of Consortium, and the Latin American Regional Council of World Services Group. He is also member of the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the International Trademark Association. Mr. Taboada speaks fluent Spanish and Spanish.

Barbara Carrera

Barbara Carrera, acclaimed artist and film and television actress, has formed a collaborative alliance with Fundación Grupo Mariana, Nicaragua.  Carrera began modeling as a teenager and subsequently graced the covers of more than 300 fashion magazines, including, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and Elle. Following a successful transition to film, Carrera received several Golden Globe nominations and awards for her work in film and was the only actor to receive a nomination for work in a James Bond movie. Carrera is also renowned for her work as an artist and has had solo gallery and museum exhibitions in the United States and London. Notable collectors prize Carrera’s paintings.

Carerra was born in Managua, Nicaragua and educated overseas. Carrera returned to Nicaragua in 1997 following Hurricane Mitch and became involved in an effort to raise funds for those devastated by the natural disaster. Carrera, who believes that the future of a country depends on the success of its youth, has focused her efforts on an orphanage in the mountains of Masaya called Orfelinato Sor. Maria Romero. In her collaboration with Fundación Grupo Mariana, Carrera will act as Advisory Board Member and Ambassador to the world for the foundation.

Grupo Mariana has created a program called “5% for Futures” which promises to donate 5% of all sales under all Grupo Mariana businesses to a fund that is governed by their foundation, Fundación Grupo Mariana..The goal of the 5% for Futures Program is to help drive the economic growth and sustainability of the greater Mariana Region, creating an attractive area for the sustained growth of tourism activities.
