Grupo Mariana began operations in Nicaragua in the month of June 2005.
Kevin Fleming was introduced to the country by his wife, a native of Nicaragua who he met in Canada. Excited by the possibilities he saw, Fleming began exploring investment opportunities, mainly in the real estate sector.
Based on his belief that Nicaragua was poised to offer the type of resort opportunities seen in neighboring countries, the company purchased 923 acres on the Pacific Coast near San Rafael del Sur, about one hour from Managua. This property is now the site of a unique world-class beach resort, Seaside Mariana Spa & Golf Resort.
Located on a dramatic natural slope that rises from the beach with breathtaking views of the ocean, this master-planned resort is a private community designed to set new standards for luxury, service and amenities in Nicaragua and Central America. It will feature a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, world-class spa and wellness center, and a town center that includes a beach club, boutique hotel, retail shops, restaurants and entertainment areas.
Investors will be able to select from a wide selection of beachfront and golf course residential options, including villas, condominiums and private home sites. All units will be designed and built to North American standards with the finest quality fixtures and finishes, within an old-world architectural style reflective of the area around the resort.
This multi-million dollar investment will undoubtedly stimulate the local economies. During its construction phase (starting November 2009), the project is expected to create over 700 direct jobs, and another 28,000 indirectly.
When asked what advice he would offer to other investors considering working in Nicaragua, Fleming answered simply: “Run, don’t walk.” Fleming describes his entire investment and development experience in the country as very positive, claiming he wouldn’t change a thing if he could. He has fallen in love with the people, whom he values as honest, hard-working people, eager to improve the quality of life for their families and the country.
