Barbara Carrera began a modeling career as a teenager gracing the covers of more than 300 magazines, including, among others, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Cosmopolitan. She was discovered by Hollywood gracing the cover of a men’s fashion magazine, GQ.

Barbara received several nominations for her work in films as well as television and was the first and only actor to receive a nomination, Golden Globe, for her work in a James Bond film. Barbara is also known for her work as an accomplished artist and has had solo gallery and museum exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Notable collectors prize her paintings.

Barbara was born in San Carlos, Nicaragua and was Convent educated overseas. She returned to Nicaragua in 1997 following Hurricane Mitch and became involved in an effort to raise funds for those devastated by the natural disaster. Carrera, who believes that the future of a country depends on the success of its youth, has focused her efforts on an orphanage in the mountains of Masaya called Orfelinato Sor. Maria Romero.

Barbara will be collaborating with Fundación Grupo Mariana in future fundraising events acting as an ambassador for their causes. Fundación Grupo Mariana was created to organize and support socially responsible programs dedicated to fostering growth, self-reliance and sustainability for the people of Nicaragua.

Fundación Grupo Mariana is a non-profit organization founded by Grupo Mariana, S.A. The overriding goal of the foundation is to provide support as part of its corporate commitment to have a positive influence on the communities that surround its properties and on the population as a whole.

To that end, Grupo Mariana is committing 5% of the proceeds from all sales our businesses. The 5% Futures Program was designed as a vehicle for creating opportunity for those in need and giving back to the Nicaraguan community. Grupo Mariana has set a goal of raising 3 million dollars for the foundation.

The funds from Grupo Mariana’s 5% for Futures Program will in part be dedicated to the construction of schools in Masachapa, Diriamba, Salinas Grandes and San Rafael del Sur. In addition, Fundación Grupo Mariana is committed to developing training programs for adults in the community, which is an essential part of independence and sustainable growth for the population of Nicaragua.

Fundación Grupo Mariana is proud that Barbara Carrera has chosen to join them in the effort to create a better future for those in need. Fundación Grupo Mariana looks forward to a long and fruitful collaboration with Carrera—a collaboration that is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the people in Nicaragua.
